Professor Dato Dr Ansary Ahmed is the President/CEO
of the Asia e-University. He
graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of
Liverpool.He obtained his PhD in
Molecular Biology in from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He
first started his career as a tutor in University of Malaya rose to Professor
where he served as Head of Department of Genetics, Deputy Dean Faculty of
Science and the Founding Dean for Institute of Postgraduate Studies. Prof Dato
Ansary was the Project Leader, Senior Vice President and cofounder of Open
University of Malaysia. The University now boasts an enrollment of over 80,000
students. At the national level, he has been actively involved as Steering
committee member of National Bio-technology Group, as Special Science Officer
at Malaysian Industry Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) the Science
Advisor Office, Prime Minister’s Department. He also served as member of Task
Force National Technology at Mapping Project, National Innovation System and
Headed the Pharmaceutical Secretariat at MIGHT. Prof Ansary has served as
Chairman and member of several national level task forces and committees in
Higher Education for Internationalisation, Lifelong learning and is presently
National Chairman for e learning. He is also active internationally, he is a
member of UNESCO Kornberg 21st Century Visionaries for Higher
Education and currently serves as UNESCO Technical Consultant to Libya for the
ICT transformation of Libyan Universities. He is often invited as speaker at
both local and international levels including Education Leaders Forum, Paris.
He has represented Malaysia as a member of Board of trustees Asean University
Network for several years. He was Project Director for Total e learning solution Ministry of Higher Education, Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia, and been appointed Honourary Advisor for Asia by the Commonwealth
of Learning based in Vancouver. Professor Dato’ Ansary is the Founding
President/CEO of the Asia e University which is a collaborative effort of 31
Asian countries under the Asian Cooperative Dialogue. Dato Ansary was awarded
by Enterprise Asia the Most Promising
Entrepreneur in recognition of Asia e University’s great success as start
up. In recognition of his contributions both Nationally and Internationally, he
was conferred in 2005 the Darjah Johan
(Champion of the State) Negeri Pulau Pinang, and in 2007 the Darjah Paduka Mahkota Perak, by the
DYMM Sultan of Perak Darul Ridzuan which carries the title Dato’.
Professor Steve McCarty - JAPAN
Steve McCarty is a Professor at Osaka Jogakuin
College in Japan. He was President of the World Association for Online Education (WAOE)
from 1998-2007, now President Emeritus. He teaches content-based EFL
courses, such as language acquisition, research paper writing, bilingualism and
bilingual education, environment and human rights, and intercultural
communication. He regularly lectures to
foreign technicians on Japanese People and Society for the Japanese government
(JICA). Steve was a presenter at the
first annual TCC Online Conference in 1996, Program Chair in 1997, and opening
keynote presenter in 1998. He first had a Japanese-English homepage in 1996,
and since 1997 his Website of online publications has received a 4-star rating,
very useful for research, from the Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library. In 1998
he first offered digital video on the Web and started using the learning
management system WebCT. In 2002-2003 he was the Instructional Designer
for the World Bank Global Development Learning Network Partnership with Japan.
In 2004 he taught an intensive course on Online Education in Theory and
Practice at the national University of Tsukuba Graduate School of Education, involving
mentors abroad through audio-conferences, chat and voice BBS. He has had a
mobile phone Website since 2000 a podcasting blog since 2005, and a YouTube
producer's channel since 2006. In 2007 he delivered the opening keynote address
at the first Wireless Ready conference in Nagoya, presenting on Web 2.0 and mobile
technologies simultaneously in the 3D virtual world Second Life. Recent book
chapters include “Social Networking Behind Student Lines in Japan” in The
Handbook of Research on Web 2.0 and Second Language Learning (IGI Global,
U.S, 2009) and “Social Media to Motivate Language Learners from Before Admission to After
Graduation” in Media in Foreign Language Teaching and Learning(National University of Singapore, 2010 /

Associate Professor Zaidatun Tasir - MALAYSIA
Zaidatun
Tasir is an Associate Professor of Educational Technology at the Department of
Educational Multimedia, Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi
Malaysia.She obtained her first degree,
B. Sc. Comp. with Edu. (Math) (Hons.) from UTM (1995), M. Ed. (Educational
Media Computers) from Arizona State University, USA (1998), and Ph.D
(Educational Technology) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2002).Her research interests and expertise include
Design and Development of Computer and web-based Instructions, Multiple
Intelligence through computer-based instruction, Problem-based learning through
technology, and Social Networking Tools in Education.She had written 36 books in computer and
multimedia in education and more than 70 journal and conference papers related
to her research areas.Most of her
research products in teaching and learning with technology had been recognized
at national and international levels where she received 18 awards in innovation
and invention competitions; Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE), PECIPTA, The
International Exhibition, Ideas, Invention, New Products (IENA), Nuremberg,
Germany, and 36th International Exhibition of Inventions of New Techniques and
Products Geneva.
